CHAI: EPSRC Hub for Causality in Healthcare AI with Real Data

The AI Hub for Causality in Healthcare AI with Real Data (CHAI) unites an international consortium of universities, industry partners, government bodies, and regulatory entities to develop cutting-edge innovations to enhance patient care and outcomes.

Causal AI unearths causal insights, formalises treatment effects, assesses outcome likelihood, and estimates counterfactuals. Incorporating causal principles is critical for delivering the National AI Strategy to ensure AI is technically and clinically safe, transparent, fair, trustworthy, and explainable.

The CHAI Hub will bring together academia, industry, healthcare, and policymakers to co-create next-generation causal AI solutions. The hub will develop methods to identify and account for causal relationships in complex data (federated, heterogenous, noisy, sparse, and multimodal).

The CHAI ecosystem will amass experts and stakeholders from across the UK and internationally to push the boundaries of AI innovation, co-develop cutting-edge solutions that improve efficiency in our resource-constrained healthcare system, and drive forward the UK’s standing in AI.
