The project aims to establish a foundation for trusted, inclusive, and globally informed development of AI in healthcare by fostering UK-Vietnam collaboration. Through a series of structured activities, including comparative reviews of AI standards, best practices, and data governance across the UK, Vietnam, and international contexts, the project will generate knowledge and insights that informs policy and development strategies.

Collaborative exchanges, including researcher visits and a UK-Vietnam datathon, will support mutual learning and co-creation of tools and frameworks. By curating and harmonising breast cancer screening datasets from the UK, Vietnam, and the USA, the project will design a testbed for assessing AI models in diverse settings. These outputs will directly contribute to the project’s purpose: to enhance the UK’s sovereign AI capability in healthcare, particularly in early breast cancer diagnosis, while building international strategic partnerships and inclusive innovation pathways.

In the longer term, the project will help position the UK as a global leader in ethical, effective healthcare AI, strengthen its international influence, and contribute to more equitable and resilient health systems by shaping standards and practices that are globally relevant and locally adaptable.
